Guatteria gaumeri acts on the liver and gallbladder, kidney and pancreas. It has affinity to improve digestive complaints with liver and biliary manifestation. It is one of the frequently used homoeopathic remedy for liver complaints. It is reported for gallstone.

Its anti hypercholesterolemic effect was reported way back in 1982. 1 Studies have found that this is primarily due to its main component Alpha-asarone by decreasing the secretion of lipids. In a clinical study in Udaipur India, the effect of this yumel medicine on group of 29 subjects with mild to moderate hypercholesterolaemia with or without statin therapy was carried out. All subjects were given 10-15 drops of Gautteria gaumeri Q thrice in a day for 2 months and were followed fortnightly. Guatteria gumeri was observed to be efficacious in controlling hypercholesterolaemia. There was no significant effect of statin therapy prior to starting Guatteria gaumeri Q. No safety issues were reported in the study.
