Bach Flower Remedy: Descriptive Materia Medica
As Dr. Bach expressed it, "The Red Chestnut fear is for others, especially for those dear to us. If they return home late, there is a thought that some accident would have happened, if they go for a holiday they dread that some calamity will befall them. There is great anxiety for those who are not even dangerously ill and a minor ailment may become a very serious complaint in the imagination. Always fearing the worst and always anticipating; misfortune for others." This is the fear and contraction of the heart we feel when we see someone crossing the road in front of an oncoming car, or a child slipping from a height or climbing an unsteady ladder.
A few days before Dr. Bach found this remedy he had been chopping wood in the garden of Mount Vernon and the chopper slipped and gnashed his wrist. When he came in we had felt great anxiety and fear on his behalf. He also added to our anxiety, with blood streaming from his wrist, pale and shaky and almost fainting from loss of blood. First aid was quickly applied, but not before we had felt great anxiety and fear on his behalf. On his recovery, he told us we had been experiencing the state of mind of the next remedy we sought-fear and anxiety for others. He also added that our anxiety, although we had done our best to hide it, had not helped him at all. His sensitivity at that time was so great that any thought of depression, worry or fear in another would cause him actual physical pain. Negative thoughts not only hurt ourselves but also those around us.
The positive aspect of this remedy is the ability to send out thoughts of safety, health, and courage to those in danger or in illness. To keep calm or keep your head in times of emergency.
