The nail separation from its nail bed (Onycholysis) can occur due to many reasons and topical antifungal treatment commonly used is but only one of the solutions. For permanent results, you need to treat the underlying cause of the condition which is possible in homeopathy

Dr.K.S. Gopi a researcher, academician and practitioner and author of best seller book Homeopathy Easy Prescriber has identified important remedies based on this criteria

Antimonium crudum 30  is effective for Onycholysis due to fungus infection of nails, especially toenails. Onychomycosis, also called tinea unguium, is a fungal infection that affects either the fingernails or toenails. In either case, the fungi infection can make your nail separate from its nail bed. Other symptoms: Horny or split nails. Nails grow slowly out of shape. Horny growth under the nails. The person also suffers from horny warts on hands and soles. Feet are very tender and callosities are seen on soles.

Arnica Montana 30 is indicated for Onycholysis due to trauma or injury to the nails. A fingernail or toenail can be injured by a blow to the nail or by closing the finger or toe in a door or drawer. When the cause is a crush injury, underlying fracture and nail bed or matrix damage may occur. Other symptoms: Bruised pain under the nails. Black and blue color of the nail.

Bufo rana 30 is effective for Onycholysis with panaritium. In panaritium (nail bed inflammation) of the tendon sheath, the finger is held bent and that may lead to damage to nail tissue and its separation from the swelling underneath. Other symptoms: There is blue-black swelling around the nail, and pain in streaks up the arm.

Chrysarobinum 30 is best for Onycholysis, where it is associated with psoriasis. In psoriasis, this may occur along the distal margin of the nail, which becomes white in color as it detaches from the nail bed. As per NIH study, it was found that patients with psoriasis had a higher risk for onychomycosis, 56%, when compared to the group without psoriasis. Other symptoms: The nails become dull and develop ridges and pits in the nails.

Graphites 30 is prescribed when nails become brittle and crumbling. Nails being too moist or too dry typically causes them to become brittle. Chemical nail polish remover or artificial nail tips can also make your nails become brittle or crumble. Other symptoms: Nails deformed, painful, sore, thick, and crippled. Nails thick, rough ingrown. Cracks and fissures are seen on tip of fingers. Feet cold and wet and burning in soles and heels is characteristic.

Flouric acid 30 is best where splinter-like pain under the nail is experienced. The nails distorted, crumble, and grow rapidly. Longitudinal ridges are seen on the nails. Soreness between the toes. Painful corns are seen. With age, vertical nail ridges may become more numerous or prominent because of changes in cell turnover within the nail

Myristica sebifera Q is indicated for Onycholysis with pain in fingernails and swelling of phalanges (bones of the fingers and of the toes). Finger swelling may occur due to injury, infection, arthritis, and other underlying conditions. This swelling can give the fingers a bloated, sausage-like appearance

Silicea 30 is an excellent remedy for the affections of the nails, especially if white spots appear on the nails. Blue or gray color of the nails. Nails rough, yellow, crippled, brittle, and have white spots. Ingrowing toenails with flesh and pus. Fingertips as if suppurating. Fingertips are dry, and painful at night. Cold feet and arms. Offensive-smelling sweat from the feet, hands and armpits is characteristic of Silicea. Illnesses that can lead to white nails include iron deficiency anemia and a lack of iron in the body. liver cirrhosis. Deficiencies in calcium, vitamin D, and vitamin E can cause white patches on the skin

Thuja occidentalis 200 is prescribed, where the nails become soft, brittle and ribbed. Brown spots are seen on the hands and arms. Perspiration is sweetish and strong. Soft nails might be caused by overexposure to moisture or chemicals - think detergent, cleaning fluids, nail treatments, and nail polish remover.
