Development of dark circles under the eyes in any age is of great aesthetic concern because it may depict the individual as sad, tired, stressed, and old. Medically termed as Idiopathic cutaneous hyperchromia at the orbital region (ICHOR), the phenomena is frequent in dark skin and develops around the eyes as a halo. It interferes with the face appearance which often causes difficulties in societal acceptance and may impact quality of life.
The remedies indicated here work to clear melanin pigmentation clusters and improve blood flow in affected areas. The skin is rejuvenated at a sub cutaneous level, pufiness is removed and skin tone improves due to the combined affect of improved blood circulation and reduced malanin concentration in areas under the skin.
What causes dark circles around the eyes in adults?
As per clinical studies, various factors contribute to development of dark circles in men and women. A study published in Journal of Cutaneous and Aesthetic Surgery confirms that melanin deposits and blood stasis in dark circles may play a role in ICHOR pathogenesis and cause the darkening of skin under eyes.
Blood flow stagnation is said to be an important factor for the incidence of dark eye circles. An increased amount of haemoglobin and decreased haemoglobin oxygen saturation were observed at the site of dark eye circles. It also observed that the blood flow rate was slow at dark eye circles in comparison with cheek. From these results, blood flow stagnation seems to be one of the factors that could induce dark eye circles. Conclusion: The main factors contributing to the appearance of Peri-orbital dark circles are melanin and (deoxygenated) blood.
Other risk factors: In another study it was determined that family history was the most significant risk factor for Peri-orbital dark circles. The average age of onset was 24 years, and earlier onset correlated with higher severity scores. Asthma was significantly associated with Peri-orbital dark circles scores
