It is a herbaceous plant, Commonly known as Agrimony with dense hair at base and a native of Europe. It is now cultivated in USA for its yellow flowers and phyto-therapeutic uses. It is a well-studied plant.In contains tannins, coumarins, flavonoids including luteolin, a volatile oil and polysaccharides. The herb also contains a glucoside alkaloid, nicotinic acid amide, vitamins and phytosterols.

It is covered by Homoeopathic Pharmacopoeia of United States.It has antihaemorrhagic, wound healing, antiseptic, anti-inflammatory and anti-toxic properties. In small doses orally it is reported to be gentle tonic for digestion. In herbal medicine it is also used as urinary antiseptic and for kidney stones.
