Elm Bach Flower Remedy: Descriptive Materia Medica

This remedy of the Elm flowers is for those who feel at times overwhelmed by the responsibility and scope of their work, and the feeling of inadequacy results in despondency and exhaustion. These people are very capable, efficient, and intuitional and often hold positions of importance. They may be key men in the industry, Ministers of State, doctors, teachers, and nurses, or they may have many others who depend upon their care, such as parents of large families. All those holding positions of trust, and holding them because of their ability and wisdom, and dependability. Decisions of importance may depend upon their advice, they are perhaps the only persons who can do that particular job. They know they have the ability to do all that is required of them, for they have chosen their work in life, but on occasions the magnitude of it and the responsibility attached to it, causes them to feel it is not humanly possible for one person to cope with it all, that they were not equal to the job, that they may fail and so cause distress and hardship to others. The doubt about their ability and powers leaves them feeling temporarily weak and exhausted.

This feeling of despondency and exhaustion does not last long for they have an inner conviction that they have been chosen for this particular world and will be given the strength and wisdom to deal with all that comes their way. They differ from the Hornbeam folk in this way, for the latter suffer from tiredness of mind and body, more from a lack of real interest in their daily tasks, a feeling of lethargy, and a lack of desire to cope with their work.

The exhaustion and despondency of the Olive state of mind are due to long-continued suffering of mind and body when interest is also lost and no fresh effort can be made, whereas the Elm exhaustion is but temporary and due to distress, so that for the moment ability, wisdom and confidence appear to be dulled The positive aspect of the Elm character is, therefore, certainty and confidence, thinking always of the safety and welfare and betterment of others. An inner unshakable knowledge that help will be given to them however great the difficulties.
