Wild Rose Bach Flower Remedy: Descriptive Materia Medica

These people have become resigned to their illnesses, uncongenial work or monotonous lives. Although they do not complain, they make no effort to get well or to find other work or to enjoy simple pleasures. They feel it is their fate to put up with such conditions, not realizing it is in their own hands to alter them. They are without joy or pleasure. “It’s no good, I shall never be any different, and people will just have to take me as I am.” “I weave things into my life and take them as a matter of course and accept them.” “I suppose I must live with it- learn to live with pain.” “She just sticks on in the same routine.”

They think that because a parent or relative had a certain complaint, they must have it too. “It is in the family so I must expect to suffer also”, and they accept a verdict of “incurable” saying, “As I shall have it all my life, I must bear it.” They resign themselves to limitations and they lack the power to assert themselves and their personalities, to expect better conditions or to go out and seek them. They surrender to life. They are usually weary and lacking in vitality; they make dull companions. They resign themselves to live of unhappiness, as it were, willingly. They have not the deep depression or the hopelessness of the Gorse type, however.

The positive aspect of Wild Rose is shown in the one who has a quick, lively interest in the happenings, however trivial, of his daily life and that of others. His very interest and vitality attract to him better conditions, more friends, and better health. He is one who does not accept defeat and is never bored, for his sense of humour and joy of living are highly developed.

Wild Rose Bach Flower Cases treatead:

Mr. J., aged 40, by nature, a quiet reserved man, not very ‘out-going’ and does not like people to know much about him. He had no conversation and little interest in anything, says was weary of it all; “why bother?” He was resigned to his physical condition, but every now and then “blew up” and got irritable and tense. Physical condition: twelve months after working as fitter and turne, in a tannery, he developed red irrigable spots in the bend of the elbow, and remained three weeks in hospital. He changed to a new job and was happy in it. From time to time, the condition almost cleared but never quite disappeared. Intense irritation kept him awake.

January 1962, Remedies prescribed: Wild Rose for his feeling of resignation and “why bother?” Cherry Plum was given for times when he had to “blow up” and lose control over his repressed emotions, Impatiens for the irritability and Crab Apple to cleanse. His first report in February was that he was sleeping very much better, and the skin irritation was lessening. He had only one slight “blow up”, when he was much less irritable. The same remedies were repeated and in March he could report feeling much better, with more interest in things, and his skin was beginning to clear. He had much better sleep at nights. The remedies were again repeated and in April he said his skin had cleared completely. “I am absolutely fine and much happier.”
