About Bach Flower Remedy

Dr. Edward Bach a British doctor and homeopath concluded that sickness and diseases were not primarily  due to physical causes, but to some deeper disharmony within the sufferer himself.

He observed that body loses its natural resistance to diseases and become easy prey to any infection or from of illness due to distress in mind such as fear, worry, over anxiety, importance which depleted the vitality of an individual.

Between 1930 and 1936 he devoted his whole time to the search for harmless remedies amongst the wild flowers of countryside. He discovered 38 flower Remedies containing healing properties with the help of which the sufferer could again strength to overcome his anxieties, his fears, depression and so assist in his own healing in a natural way. Bach Flower Remedy: Descriptive Materia Medica

Indecision, the inability to make up the mind between two "two minds," swayed first one way and then the things. In other; and suffering greatly through this. These are the states of mind of those who need Scleranthus. They experience extremes of joy and depression, energy and apathy, pessimism and optimism, laughing and crying. Unreliable and uncertain, they are unable to concentrate because of their constantly changing outlook. They also talk erratically, and change from one topic to another. In spite of this, they are quiet people as a rule, who do not ask the advice of others as do the Cerato folk. They procrastinate and waste valuable time because they cannot make up their minds; they lose opportunities as they take so long to come to a decision.

In illness, their symptoms come and go, move about; pain first in one place and then another, temperatures swing up and down, and progress is erratic. Swellings come and go, rashes clear and then return in convalescence. Mental uncertainty shows itself in unsteadiness of gait on getting out of bed, giddiness in any position. Scleranthus is a steadying remedy and may be given in combination with Gentian (doubt of getting well, disappointment at any set-back) and Mimulus (fear of not getting well or of diseases).

This type of person will often walk up and down outside a house trying to decide whether to enter or not, or start to cross the road, hesitate and decide not to (one cause of accidents). The lack of poise and balance may also be one cause of physical sickness (train, bus or sea). These people too are apt to drop things and trip, they may stutter or stammer.

Patients' letters include such remarks as: "I have a magpie mind, full of bits and pieces." "Mine is a grass-hopper mind, going from one subject to another in an unconnected fashion." "During the day I am very active and confident, but at night I have complete reversal....doubt about my decisions and regret about much of my activities of the day, wake me or prevent my going to sleep. The positive and negative sides of my nature are both over-active." "MY mother has suffered from periodical attacks of bronchitis and asthma since her youth. She seems to reach between extremes of great, though non-productive activity and the opposite of extreme, exhaustion, she finds it difficult to keep to the steady mean.” "My moods are variable like the restless sea." “I suffer agonies through indecision. I cannot do a thing and let it go. I keep turning it over in my mind and waste a lot of time and energy over it." "I am torn in two, I am all of a dither", "Riding the clouds when things go well and depressed when even the most trivial things go wrong."

The positive aspect of this remedy shows calmness and quiet determination: prompt in action, quick in the decision. These are people who can be trusted and relied on to take responsibility and be steadfast. Those who can keep their poise and balance under all circumstances.

Bach Flower, Cases treated:

Mr. Maala aged 77, quiet kind man who had suffered from bouts of constipation for 60 years, brought on, as he said, by indecision and resulting worry. Whenever there was some big decision to make either at work or at home, he suffered agonies of indecision before making up his mind. He had also spent three months, deciding to come for treatment, first of all thinking he would, and then thinking he would not bother. The sudden death of his wife, his loneliness and depression, finally brought him to us.

In August, 1957, he was given Scleranthus for the indecision, Gorse for his hopelessness and depression and Star of Bethlehem for the shock of weeks he reported that his wife's death. Within three although the constipation had not improved, he was feeling very much happier and more hopeful, but best of all he had decided upon the future course of his life. Scleranthus was then given alone and continued for two months when he could report that the constipation was a thing of the past and that he felt more confidence in himself than ever before. This improvement has been maintained.
